The cross curricular competencies listed herein are an integral part of the core curriculum of students enrolled in the Belize High School. Thus, teachers are required to consciously plan and implement cross curricular skills in research, technology, critical thinking, decision making and problem solving, personal skills and qualities, and leadership skills.
The following five important cross curricular skills and competencies are integrated across all core subjects in the Belize High School Curriculum.

Area 1: Research
- Effectively evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of various sources of information
- Identify and explain ethical issues of research and documentation
- Cite information using standard methods of documentation such as the Modern Language Association (MLA) or the American Psychological Association (APA)
- Prepare documents for publication or submission

Area 2: Digital Citizenship: Technology

- Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats
- Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media

Area 4: Personal and Social Skills

Area 5: Leadership Skills and Qualities
Leadership skills can be defined as the ability to preside, guide, or manage self, others, activities, or events with responsibility for the final outcome (Murphy, 2005). The 21 cross curricular leadership standards forms an integral component of the instructional program at the Belize High School. The leadership skills, in this subsection, should not be viewed as all inclusive but as one that provides a basic core of common skills to all program areas to be integrated and build upon in the classroom. Note, the code L is used to represent the cross curricular leadership skills and qualities in this document.
